Joyful
Sheila Van Der Linden
This little pile of batiks languished in my stash drawers for a few years before I knew what to do with them. It was a pile of 40 ten inch squares, 4 of 10 different patterns. When I designed this quilt, I designed it to be a scrappy quilt, but with 4 quadrants all the same, this pile of squares was perfect. 36 of the squares were used in the body of the quilt, while the remaining 4 are in the outer corners, as a cornerstone. I named this pattern Joyful, because this quilt pattern looks like a gift, with a bow in the center. What is more joyful than giving a gift? Every time I piece this quilt, and I’ve done 4 different versions now, I have so much fun. The measurements are easy, its quick to piece, and simple is always good! This particular quilt is now in Australia. I hope my sister in law enjoys many cuddles with it. Adding joy to your life in simple and easy ways always comes back to you tenfold. Don’t be afraid of giving, even if the one who receives doesn’t appreciate the gift, the joy is yours. Hold it close, your soul will glow.
